This year, Aidocean returns to New Ireland for another multidisciplinary healthcare campaign.

Who is involved in the GP PNG 2025 mission?

For this 3-week mission, the Aidocean team is made up of :

Marine Bayer, nurse and President of Aidocean
Christophe Grangeon, doctor and Aidocean secretary
Françoise Quinaud Green, gynecologist
Dorothée Degroote Stoupy, midwife
Marion Thellier, journalist, NC la 1ère

The local team of healthcare professionals at Kavieng Hospital includes:

Jennifer (midwife)
Abraham (dentist)
Jack (dental assistant)
Ignatius (ophthalmic nurse)

This mission will also be an opportunity to experiment with the use of a portable analysis laboratory: the Qube. PRISM, a biotechnology research and development company, is participating in the Aidocean 2025 mission by providing a specially adapted technology: a portable analysis laboratory, so that blood or urine tests can be carried out directly on site, with instant results.

An engineer will join the medical team to test the Qube’s capabilities in real-life situations.

The presence of local staff is always invaluable, both in extending the range of care we offer and in communicating with the local population.

Without them, our action would be more limited and less effective.

The work area

This year’s mission takes place in the northernmost part of Papua New Guinea, northwest of New Hanover Island, where the PNG 2023 mission took place.

It is on Mussau Island and the surrounding islets that the Aidocean medical team is working. This mountainous island of 400 km² is home to around ten villages and a few more isolated communities. The surrounding islets of Eloaua and the Saint Matthias archipelago are also home to a few villages.

A hundred kilometers separate these isolated islands from Kavieng, New Ireland’s main town. Kavieng serves as a home port for the team, who will set sail from there with all the equipment required for the mission.
